Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women Senator the Hon Marise Payne and Assistant Defence Minister and Minister for International Development and the Pacific the Hon Alex Hawke MP announced a consultation process to guide a new Australian development policy. This policy will drive the Government’s international development efforts in support of security, stability, prosperity and resilience in the Indo-Pacific.

The new policy will provide a framework for the development of new comprehensive country and regional plans. A streamlined performance framework will accompany the policy to communicate the value and impact of Australia’s development cooperation program. An Expert Panel will advise Ministers and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on the development of the new policy and performance framework.

The new policy will reflect the Government’s plan to retain a targeted and efficient development budget of $4 billion per year. DFAT invited members of the public, the development community, partners and stakeholders in Australia and overseas, to give input into the new policy and performance framework.
